Marvin Max Barth, age 93, of Lamoni, Iowa, the son of Clayton Emery and Velma (Earley) Barth, was born July 20, 1924, in Harrison County, Missouri. He left this life on Saturday, September 2, 2017, at his Lamoni, Iowa home.

Marvin grew up in the Andover, Missouri area and attended Downey School. He then farmed with his father, Clate, and his grandparents, Charlie and Merl Barth. On June 2, 1945, he married Opal Maxine Gardner in Kansas City, Kansas. They made their home at Lamoni, Iowa. They were blessed with seven children, Ronald, Marjorie, Phyllis “P.J.”, Elaine, Lorraine, Charles “C.B.”, and Sharon.

In addition to farming, Marvin worked at Eastside Service in Lamoni, drove a truck for the Lamoni Creamery, worked at Farmer’s Co-Op in Lamoni, owned and drove a gravel truck, helping to build I-35, and was an assistant to the veterinarians at the Lamoni Vet Clinic. He also worked in several different states with his son on pipeline construction. In addition to all these jobs, he helped his wife at the Barth Dairy Cup, which they owned and operated for 45 years. They made a good team as she cooked and he ran the order window. They sold the business in 2009.

In earlier years, Marvin loved his horse, Pansy, who was like a member of his family. He enjoyed roller skating, ice skating, fishing, picking berries, hunting mushrooms, and cutting wood. Later, he and Opal enjoyed driving around the countryside.

As a teenager, he was baptized in the Downey Church of Christ.

Marvin had a great sense of humor and spent a lot of his time playing jokes on, or getting even with his friends, Charlie Cannon and Rex Stoll.

Preceding him in death were his parents; son, Ron Barth on November 8, 2014; grandson, Tim Stevenson; grandson-in-law, David Payne; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Chester McDaniel, Doyle Dunn, Bob and Lee Gardner, Jim Gardner, Don and Bonnie Gardner, Marvin Geeding, Pete Manchester, Bernice Woodall, Betty Gardner, and Louise Gardner.
