AGED RESIDENT OF COUNTY DIES. Hold Final Rites for Mrs H H McVay, Monday.
An aged resident of Davis county, Mrs H H McVay, died at her home in Drakesville last Saturday afternoon following a brief illness. Funeral services for Mrs H H McVay were held Monday afternoon and were conducted by Rev Redmon, pastor of the Drakesville Christian Church. Interment was made in Drakesville cemetery.
Mrs McVay was 84 years old at the time of her death. She is survived by her husband, H H McVay, one son, John McVay of Drakesville, two daughters, Emma Davis of Keosauqua, and Ida Belle Davis of Drakesville. Six grandchildren, Harry Davis, Columbus, O.; Holly Davis, New York City; Floyd McVay, Denmark, Kan.; Pauline Taylor, Youngstown, O.; Leona and Lloyd McVay of Drakesville and six great grandchildren also survive. Two children, Elizabeth and Frank, preceded her in death.
The following obituary was read at the final rites:
Sarah Ann Elizabeth Patterson, daughter of Robert and Malinda Patterson was born at Salt Works, West Virginia, August 29 1847, and passed away at her home at Drakesville, Saturday afternoon, January 2, 1932, aged 84 years, 4 months and 4 days. Her mother died when she was but 5 years of age and soon after her father had moved from the home in Virginia to Delaware county, Iowa. He died leaving her an orphan at the age of 10 years. She was taken back to west Virginia, where she was reared to young woman hood by grandfather and step-grandmother Perrie. At their death she returned to Delaware county, Iowa, to her brothers, where she was united in marriage to H H McVay, April 19, 1868.
To this union five children were born, two proceeding her in death, Elizabeth in early childhood, and Frank in the prime of life. She is survived by her aged husband, one son John McVay of Drakesville, tow daughters, Emma Davis of Keosaqua and Ida Belle Davis of Drakesville, Six grandchildren, Harry Davis, Columbus, O.; Holly Davis, New York City; Floyd McVay, Denmark, Kan.; Pauline Taylor, Youngstown, O.; Leona and Lloyd McVay of Drakesville and six great grandchildren.
Two sisters and three brothers proceeded her in death. She had not heard from her Brother George for a few years. She united with the Christian Church and was baptized March 16, 1913, and was satisfied that when she left this earthly home she would make her home with Jesus.
She had a quiet, home loving disposition, was a faithful wife and loving mother.
