Margaret Peterson, 96 passed away on Oct. 23, 2017 at her home in Van Meter, Iowa. She was born on Dec. 30, 1920 in Reading Township on a farm near Farnhamville, Iowa to Conrad and Wilhelmina (Alliger) Schoberlein. She graduated from Farnhamville High School and went on to attend the Tobin Business School in Fort Dodge.

Upon graduation she began to work in Lake City, where she met and married Forest Gillespie. They were engaged in farming until his untimely death in 1951. Two sons were born of this union, Don and Duane Gillespie.

In 1952 Margaret and her two boys moved to Gowrie Iowa, where she was employed by the Farmers CO-OP. Margaret loved her work at the CO-OP and loved her coworkers. She retired after 33 years of service.

Margaret later remarried Melvin Peterson in 1964, and he later preceded her in death.

Margaret is survived by Donald Gillespie of Van Meter, Duane and his wife Sandy Gillespie of North Vernon, Indiana as well as Kay Peterson Owen and Rodney Peterson. Grandchildren include Chad and Ryan Gillespie of Van Meter; Sonya Kopitzke and Christopher and Amanda Gillespie of North Vernon Indiana, as well as Kari Owen Bahr and Brett and Lori Peterson. Great Grandchildren include Sebastian and Paxton Gillespie, Mason Bahr, Aiden Peterson, Dustin Alexis and Ashley Follmer and Jadyn Motsinger.

There will be a short service and celebration of life for Margaret at 10 a.m., Oct. 28 at the Methodist Church in Van Meter, where she was a faithful member with a gift for encouraging and lifting up others. Margaret will be laid to rest next to Forest Gillespie in Gowrie, Iowa. Margaret will be missed by all especially her family. Anyone who knew Margaret considered her an Angel, one of a kind.
