Robert "Bob" Moore
1951 - 2012
Waukee

Bob Moore was born July 27, 1951 in Kansas, and passed away September 26, 2012 in Des Moines, Iowa after a 17 month struggle with small cell lung cancer. Services will be held at Hamilton's on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines on Sunday, September 30, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. Visitation will be held from 1 to 3 prior to the service.

Bob and his family moved to Boise, Idaho, where they lived until moving to Estherville, Iowa, in 1963. He graduated from Estherville High school in 1969, Iowa Lakes Community College in 1971, and Iowa State University in 1974, with a degree in Business Administration. At ISU he met his wife, Sandy, and they were married on September 14, 1974.

After college Bob worked in his father's business, Moore Construction. In 1978 he became assistant manager of Great Plains Lumber in Estherville. Tragedy struck in 1982 when he suffered a disabling illness, transverse myelitis. He spent three months at the Mayo Clinic, in Rochester, Minnesota, followed by recovery at home. Not one to remain idle for long, Bob found an occupation circumventing his limitations and re-entered school. He graduated in 1989 from Iowa Lakes Community College with a CAD drafting degree. That summer, Bob and Sandy moved to Des Moines where Bob pursued a drafting career at EFCO (Economy Forms).

Prior to his illness, Bob was an avid bowler and golfer. In recent years his favorite pastime was following ISU athletics, especially football and basketball. His mind carried a wealth of historical knowledge of both sports. Bob loved spending time with his family and friends, especially over a good meal at one of his favorite restaurants.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Sandy; his parents, Dale and Betty Moore; son, James (Amanda); two grandchildren, Bailey and Nathan; brother, Dan; his sister Peggy (Steve) Danielson; five nephews, and two nieces.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents; and his parents-in-law, Virgil and Ruth Mohr.

Special thanks to Dr. Dan Buroker; nurses, Amy and Cheryl; and the staff at Methodist Hospital, Powell 3, for their care and concern.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Iowa Health Home Care Hospice or to ISU Foundation. Online condolences may be expressed at www.HamiltonsFuneralHome.com. ~ The Des Moines (IA) Register Fri 28 Sept 2012.
