Richard Otto Meyer, 68, of Sioux City died Sunday, Dec. 29, 2002, in Sioux City.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Redeemer Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Russell Senstad officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel.

Mr. Meyer was born Dec. 30, 1933, in Charter Oak, Iowa, the son of Otto and Elsie (Garbe) Meyer. He was raised in Charter Oak, where he attended school and graduated from Charter Oak High School. He was drafted in the U.S. Army in 1957, and later served with the Army National Guard with the Big Red 1. He married Corinne Huffman on Oct. 3, 1959, in Iowa. He came to Sioux City and had been a long time resident of the Siouxland area ever since. He was employed with Council Oak Foods and then the Missouri Valley Machinery for 12 years. He started selling insurance in 1971 for the Aid Association for Lutherans, retiring in 1995. He also worked for the Senior Health Insurance Information Program.

He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, where he served in various church boards, served as Sunday School superintendent, a Sunday School teacher, an elder and trustee of finance. He was a lifelong member of the Million Dollar Roundtable. He was inducted into the Aid Association for Lutherans Hall of Fame in 1995. He enjoyed camping, reading, helping others, spending time with his family and friends and going to the lakes.

Survivors include his wife, Corinne of Sioux City; a son and his wife, David and Marlene Meyer of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; a daughter and her husband, Tara Ann and Wayne VanderWeil of Sioux City; a brother and his wife, Robert and Phyllis Meyer of Sioux City; four grandchildren, Laurel and Andrew Meyer and Kevin and Grace Ann VanderWeil; and a brother-in-law and his wife, Keith and Audrey Huffman of Sioux City.
