Final rites for Jesse P. Baker, 89, were held at First Presbyterian church, Wheatland, March 20 with the Rev. Carlos Costa officiating. Burial was in Rose Hill cemetery, Mechanicsville. Pallbearers were John and Jack Sauer, Don Petersen, David Buchanan, Glen Stankee and Ralph Martens. Honorary pallbearers were Clarence Maher, Weldon Woods, Walter Hythecker, Willard Boots, Paul Stankee and Steve Driscoll. Mrs. Gerald Weibel was organist. Graveside rites were by the Busch-Dennis post of the American Legion.

Mr. Baker died at the Mechanicsville Care center March 17. The son of Henry and Emma Gaines Baker, he was born at Cedar Bluff Nov. 8, 1894. He was married to Wanda Williams at Rock Island, IL June 14, 1933. He was a veteran of World War I.

Mr. Baker was a retired star route mail carrier and farmer.

He is survived by his wife, Wanda, Wheatland; a daughter, Mrs. Jerrold (Elaine) Behrend, Mechanicsville; 2 grandchildren, Jessie Green, Tipton and Shelia Powelka, Yokosuka, Japan; 3 step-grandchildren, Mrs. Jeff Stolar, Clinton; Jane Behrend, Camanche and Joan Behrend, US Air Force; 5 great-grandchildren and 2 sisters, Laura Chapin, Davenport and Dora Gasaway of Indiana.

He was preceded in death by 3 brothers and 3 sisters.
