DeWitt, July 6 -- Mr. Joseph Warren Dearborn, a Territorial Pioneer of this county, died at his residence here on Friday afternoon at 5 o'clock, aged 66 years, 8 months and 12 days, from heart failure. Mr. Dearborn was born in Orange county, Vt., and came to Iowa with his parents in 1846. He married Miss Eliza J. Dennis, also a Territorial Pioneer, who survives him. He leaves beside his bereaved widow, two children, Willard and Mrs. Ruhbottom, to mourn his loss. Mr. Dearborn was for four years, from 1872 to 1877, deputy sheriff and jailor of the county. He had been a member of DeWitt Lodge, No. 34, A. F. & A. M., since 1872, and of Kilwimming Chapter No. 56, R. A. M., since 1876, and of the Lyons Consistory, Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite, for nearly 20 years. His funeral took place on Sunday afternoon with the Masonic ritual service conducted by Past Master W. A. Cotton, with interment at Elmwood. The Scottish Rite Masons of Clinton sent a beautiful floral tribute, a rose cross, which was displayed at his funeral.
