JAMES R. MAGEE.
ONE OF CLINTON'S ESTEEMED RESIDENTS PASSES AWAY.

As was briefly stated in the NEWS Thursday, the soul of James R. Magee passed from life at his home on Ninth avenue, early Thursday morning, after a brief illness, yet one full of pain. The funeral will be held by the societies of which he was a member at 2:30 Sunday.

Some three weeks ago he was taken ill with typhoid fever, which relaxed, and he was able to visit Lyons on business. A relapse came, added to other ailments, and he died as noted above.

James R. Magee was born in Quebec, Canada, Oct. 14, 1828. He was married to Miss Eliza J. Warnick, at Eoniaville, Ont., December 25, 1856, and had resided in Clinton for the past twenty-five years.

Three daughters were born to them: Mrs. James McIntosh, of Kamloops, British Columbia; Mr. [sic] Walter Loomis and Mrs. Frank Henry, residing in this city, who with their widowed mother, survive the husband and father. All were present at his demise, including a sister, of Toronto, Canada, except Mrs. McIntosh.

Mr. Magee was ??? Dictator, at one time, of the Iowa Knights of Honor, and a charter member of the Knights and Ladies of Honor, also holding membership in the Benevolent Fraternity of Clinton, in all of which he had insurance.

Deceased was an exemplary citizen, blessed with many friends, all of whom had a warm place in their heart for the honorable man. Kind and courteous at all times, full of love for his family, he leaves behind him a vacancy which time cannot fill. Mingled with the tears of relatives and the sorrow of his other friends, is the sadness the NEWS feels at the death of one whom it greatly esteemed.
