Clayton County Register, Thur., 29 Dec. 1932.

Stewart R. Price died early Saturday morning, Dec. 24th, at Finley hospital in Dubuque, where he had gone Tuesday of last week for an examination. He was operated on for appendicitis and rallied from the operation but complications followed, which resulted in his death.

Stewart Realto Price was born at Elkader, October 22, 1879, reaching the age of 53 last October. He was the third and youngest son of Realto E. and Sarah Filetta (Stewart) Price, and a grandson of Judge Eliphalet Price, one of Clayton county's most prominent pioneers.

Stewart, grew to manhood here, was educated in the Elkader schools, and spent practically his entire life here. He has always lived at home, helping his parents and his brother in many ways, and in later years taking much care of his aged father.

He was a special delivery carrier at the local post office and took pride in performing his duties promptly and conscientiously. He also took pride in being a member of the Elkader volunteer fire company and its special police officer. His greatest interest, however, was people, meeting them and keeping track of marriages and births and deaths, particularly among relatives of the family, but also of many others he knew. His scrap books and records are a mine of historical and biographical information about Clayton county and many who have lived here, and much of the information he had stored in his mind as well.

He was a kindly, friendly soul, filled with interest in the people around him, with a desire to be helpful and a willingness to accommodate. Everyone in our community knew him and he knew them. He was a familiar figure that will be missed from our streets.

Members of his immediate family who survive are his aged father, Realto E. Price; his sister-in-law, Mrs. Valmah T. Price of Elkader, and two nephews, Herbert Peery Price of Los Angeles, California, and Valmah T. Price, Jr., at home. A cousin, Paul Wing, who has lived in the R. E. Price home for some years past, will particularly miss him.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, at the home of Mrs. V. T. Price and at 2:00 in the Congregational church, with interment in the East Side cemetery, the Rev. C. T. Brewster officiating.
