Donovan Wayne Palmer, son of Elwood "Bus" Wayne Palmer and Alice Aileen (Blakely) Palmer was born August 9, 1935 in Osceola, Iowa and passed from this life Wednesday, May 4, 2011 at Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa at 75 years of age.

Donovan graduated from Osceola High School in 1953. He was united in marriage to Carol Rose Monical on March 6, 1955 in Red Oak, Iowa. Donovan served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean and Viet Nam wars. He was stationed on several bases in the United States, Korea, Japan, Guam, and other countries. He retired as a Chief Master Sergeant from the United States Air Force on July 31, 1975.

After retirement he moved his family to Washington D.C. and worked for Communication Satellite in Washington D.C . They returned to Iowa and the Des Moines area in 1989 where he worked for Tones Brothers Inc.

Donovan enjoyed scuba diving, shell collecting, playing golf, music and photography. He was a member of the South Sea Searchers Scuba Diving Club.

Those relatives who preceded Donovan in death were his parents; daughters, Kathi LouAnn and Lynne Beth; brother, Robert E. Palmer.

He leaves to cherish his memory wife, Carol Palmer of Urbandale; son, Philip Wayne (Diana) Palmer of Nashville, TN; son, Donovan Erik Palmer of Clive, Iowa; brother, Richard C. (Sande) Palmer of Des Moines; two grandchildren, Levi Wayne Palmer of Des Moines and Hannah Rose Palmer of Nashville, TN as well as other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Tuesday at Kale Funeral Home in Osceola. Family will greet friends one hour prior to services. Interment with military grave rites will follow in the Maple Hill Cemetery in Osceola.

Donovan was retired from the U.S. Air Force and had worked for Tone Brothers Inc. after moving back to the Des Moines area.

He is survived by wife, Carol Palmer; son, Philip Wayne (Diana) Palmer of Urbandale; son, D. Erik Palmer of Clive; brother, Richard C. (Sande) Palmer of Des Moines; two grandchildren, Levi Wayne Palmer of Des Moines and Hannah Rose Palmer of Urbandale.
