Obituary

Mrs. Don Kerr

Lela Alice Williams, daughter of T. C. and Alma Williams, was born January 28, 1882, and departed this life September 28, 1941, after a lingering illness at her home east of Liberty, at the age of 59 years and 8 months.

She was born in Des Moines, Iowa and at the age of eight years moved to Warren county where she grew to womanhood. On Dec. 24, 1902, she was united in marriage to Don L. Kerr and they moved to Clarke county where she spent the remainder of her life. To this union was born one daughter, Lela Lucille, now Mrs. Raymond Nine.

Those who survive to mourn her death are her devoted husband; her daughter, Mrs. Raymond Nine; three granddaughters, Francelia Jane, Mary Alice and Sharon Ellyn Nine; three brothers, James Williams of New Virginia, T. C. Williams of Cheyenne, Wyo., and the Rev. Wilbur Williams of Des Moines; several nephews, nieces and a host of friends. Her only sister, Mrs. Hannah Farr, preceded her in death in June of this year.

She was converted and united with the Liberty Methodist church about 37 years ago where she held her membership at the time of her death. She was a loyal and faithful member, active in the program of the church and community.

Mrs. Kerr has been a fine Christian woman, loyal and devoted to her own family. She was generous and sympathetic. She bore her suffering patiently with always a smile for everyone. In recent years she became absorbed in the well-being of her three granddaughters, praying that they grow up to be women of fine Christian characters. She, like her Lord, lived not to be ministered to but to minister. She has gone to her Eternal Home, where there awaits her a "well done, thou good and faithful servant."

Funeral services were held at the Liberty church Wednesday afternoon with Dr. W. M. Scheuermann in charge. Interment was in the Liberty cemetery.

Note: The headstone is inscribed with the name Alice L. Kerr.
