Daniel D. Norton died at his residence in north Osceola, after a protracted illness, patiently borne, April 23, 1910.
The deceased was born in Bloomfield, Trumbull County, Ohio, August 29, 1834. He came with his father’s family to Clarke County, Iowa in the spring of 1885, settling on a new piece of land where he by industry and frugality made a nice comfortable home. Here he continued to reside until the infirmities of life coming to him rendered farm life too demanding and thirteen years ago he left the farm and came to Osceola.

The deceased was united in marriage to Miss Charlotte Boden January 16, 1875. One daughter was born to them as parents, Mrs. Grace Shinn of Osceola. He was a man of a quiet reticent, disposition whose habits were good and whose moral character was commendable and his friends many and ardent.

He leaves his wife, one sister Mrs Bumgardncr of Osceola and the
daughter with many other kind relatives to mourn his absence. His father, mother, one sister and three brothers preceded him to the home not made with hands, above.

He enlisted in Co. D, 39th Iowa infantry August 13, 1862, and served his country as a true soldier until June 23. 1865 when he received an honorable discharge.

The funeral was held in the Baptist Church on Sunday the 24th at 3 P.M. Services being conducted by the writer using as topic of thought "A Good Soldier ". The Post of the Relief Corps were present after which the remains were carried to Maple Hill Cemetery and laid to rest under the ritualistic order of the Post, to await the roll call of the Resurrection trumpet at the last day.
