A sudden Summons.
This community was shocked Monday forenoon when word passed rapidly from one citizen to another that Wm. Waite had died suddenly from heart failure at his home, near the Congregational church. Death came entirely unexpected as Mr. Waite had gotten up that morning apparently in his usual health had done some work around the home and gone down town on an errand, and returning home shortly after went into the house and expired about 10 o’clock, while sitting in a chair, without any action or movement that would indicate that the death angel was hovering over him. His daughter, Sadie, came into the room just as he died, and noticing him put his handkerchief to his face she asked him if he was sick, but he made no reply, his head dropping back against the chair, and his spirit had flown.
William Waite was born April 25, 1831, at Cambridge, Washington county, New York, and lived there from until 26 years of age when he came west. He had lived in Iowa 47 years and for the last 28 years he had resided in Nashua. He leaves to mourn, a wife (Louise Breese) and seven children—Mrs. A. McRoberts, of Charles City; W. B. Waite, of Ionia; Archie G. Waite, of Park City, Utah; Mrs. E. Andrews, St. Paul, Neb.; Morris E., Robert R., and Sadie B. Waite, of this city, also a brother, Edmund C. Waite, of Colla, N. Y.; and two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Hall and Mrs. Mary A. Becker, of Cambridge, N. Y.
Deceased was a man widely known throughout this vicinity and respected and honored by all. For a number of years he had not been actively engaged in business yet he always had the best interests of the town and community at heart and did his share toward their upbuilding. He was nearing his 74th year when the Master called him from his early labors. He was a kind husband, a loving father, a true friend and a good citizen, no more can be said of anyone.
The funeral services will be held at the Congregational church at 1 o’clock this afternoon, conducted by Rev. Sindes, and the remains will be laid to rest in the family burial lot in Greenwood Cemetery.
