I see that there are two enlistment records for Jacob Thompson, from Iowa, who served in the Civil War. One served in the 2nd Regiment Iowa Cavalry and the 7th Regiment Iowa Cavalry.

This information came from the National Parks Service Civil War Soldiers & Sailors System. One may find a link to that site from the http://iagenweb.org/cedar/military/militaryindex.htm

I used the Free Find Search engine on the Cedar Co. IAGenWeb site and did not find any Jacob Thomson or Jacob Thompson listed. If you would like to email me directly, perhaps we could do some brain-storming as to where to look next.
