Hi Joyce,

You are asking about Anna Kohl but I don't see her listed in the family of Henry Kohl, unless she went by another name at that time.

The 1856 IA State Census lists
Kohl, Henry 39y b. PA Farmer
Mary 41y b. PA
David 20y b. PA
John 18y b. PA
Jacob 16y b. PA
Joseph 14y b. PA
H. 12y b. PA
Tilman 10y b. PA
Francis 8y b. PA
M J 6y b. IL
C A 3y b. IL
Eliza 1y b. IA
Kohl, Mary 21y b. IA

So that gives one an idea that the family came to this area about 1854. The Durant Centential Book tells that Henry Kohl operated a hotel in that town in 1856.

In the 1860 Federal Census, they are still living in Pioneer Twp., but their name was spelled as Cole. It was thanks to Tilman that helped me find that out. Still no Anna was listed.

Tilman Kohl is found in the 1900 census as living in Linn County, IA.

I was not able to find Henry and Mary Kohl living in Cedar County after the 1860 census. Nor could I find them buried in a Cedar Co. cemetery.

Maybe by trying to find other members of the family in censuses will help you find where they moved next.

What do you have that makes you think that your Anna is the daughter of this Henry and Mary Kohl?
