Davidson - My great grandfather was Robert Jackson Davidson. He was born in l852 and grew up in Stanwood, Iowa. His father was Ebenezer Davidson and his mother was Jane Collins Davidson. Robert Davidson Sr. came to the vicinty of Red Oak Grove - Fremont Township - Cedar County in the l850's. They were members of the Irish Seceeder Presbyterian Church and became affiliated with the United Presbyterian Church of Stanwood. I have a genealogy of the Davidson Clan in the USA written by Dr. Walter C. Davidson (Kirkwood, Iowa?) in l941. It lists lots of Iowa Davidson - that came to Iowa via Thompsonville, Connecticut, and originally were from Monaghan, Provice of Ulster, Ireland.

Preston/Armstrong - My great grandmother, Sarah Margaret Armstrong Preston was born in Rockbridge County, Virginia in l822. Her parents, John and ______ Armstrong moved to Monmouth, Illinois l1 l833 or 34. They probably lived in Spring Grove Township, Warren County. Sarah Armstrong married Wm Preston on October 3, l843, in Monmouth. They moved to Cedar County, Iowa, Fremont Township - where he already lived. They were probably originally Irish Seceeder Presbyterians, and later members of the Stanwood United Presbyterian Church. My grea grandmother was Emma Alice Preston Davidson, their daughter.

Collins - I have a picture of my great - great - great grandparents John and Alice Collins. The
picture was taken in Tipton, Iowa around l879 or l880. They were the parents of Jane Collins Davidson. Jane married Ebenezer Davidson in Thompsonville, Connecticut, and my great grandfather Robert Jackson Davidson was born in l852. The message on the back reads that they were both born in Ireland (County Monghan, Ulster?). He was a stonemason and her name was possibly Miller.
