May 9, 1984 - The Tipton Conservative

Teri Emrich, 22, Tipton, died May 6 from injuries suffered in a 2 vehicle accident 1/2 mile south of West Branch on county road X30 at 6 p.m. Saturday, May 5.

Emrich and Linda Fieseler, 19, West Branch, were passengers in a small sports car driven by Jodee Stoolman, 22, West Branch, which was struck from the rear by a car driven by Mark Jensen, 17, West Branch, in front of the Presidential Inn.

The Tipton woman was taken to University hospitals in Iowa City by Air-Care helicopter while Stoolman, Fieseler and Jensen were taken to the same hospital by Johnson county ambulance. The 3 women all suffered neck injuries and Jensen was treated for cuts and bruises.

The accident occurred as both vehicles were southbound on county road X30, also known as the Downey road. Investigating officers said Stoolman was apparently preparing to turn left into the entrance to the motel on the east side of the road when the Jensen vehicle struck the rear of the car.

Both vehicles stayed on the roadway, with the Stoolman car spinning around and the Jensen vehicle moving to the right.

The impact of the collision smashed the rear of the car driven by Stoolman and the front of the Jensen vehicle. The 1959 Austin Healey and the 1979 Ford Fiesta were both totaled.

Jensen was charged with failure to have control.

In addition to the Johnson county ambulance and Air-Care, the West Liberty fire department and the West Branch fire and rescue units responded to the emergency.
