10 December 1902 - West Branch Times

Miss Eliza Seabury dropped dead with heart failure on Wednesday morning at the home of her nephew, Geo. A. Hitchcock, five miles southwest of town, where for a number of years she has made her home. She had been in usual health, and arose on Wednesday morning and descended the stairs. On arriving at the foot, she fell to the floor, dead, without a struggle. Hers had been an exemplary life, loved by all who knew her.

17 December 1903 - West Branch Times

Eliza Lowe Seabury was born in the old town of Yarmouth, Maine, Sept. 22, 1816, and entered the higher life, Dec. 9, 1903, consequently she was 87 years, 2 months and 18 days old. She was the daughter of David and Mary Seabury. Her father lived to be 86 and her mother 88 years old. She was the third oldest of twelve children, eight were boys and four girls. Two brothers survive her. One lives in Ft. Fairfield, Maine, the other in Boston, Mass., both younger than herself by several years. Her parents were married Jan. 23, 1812. She was a member of the First Congregational church, from early youth, and leader of the choir for many years. She came to Iowa in February, 1876, with her niece and husband, Mr. and Mrs. George Hitchcock, and has been to him a faithful friends, and as a devoted mother to his children. She was a graduate of the Yarmouth Academy, and frequently during the last days of her life refered to her school days and treasured many pleasant memories of her school associates. Her physical health and bodily vigor were always remarkable. Coupled with this wonderful vitality have been a serenity of mind and a happy disposition, which have aided, no doubt, in the preservation of mind and body. Her fondness for the society of both old and young, endeared her to all who knew her pure, earnest life. D.M.H.
