28 March 1895 - West Branch Times

After a lingering and painful illness, Luke Enlow quietly passed away at his home in West Branch on the evening of March 22nd, aged 63 years, 5 mos and 11 days. He leaves a wife and three children to mourn the loss of a tender husband and a loving father. Deceased was born at Marlboro, Stark county, O. Oct. 11th 1832; he came to Iowa in 1854 and was married to Cynthia Gruwell at Springdale Sept. 1856. They commenced their married life in Harden county near Iowa Falls where they lived for twelve years. Returning to Cedar county they located near Honey Grove where they remained until about three years ago, when somewhat impaired in health and desiring to retire from active business they moved to this village. Having been a resident of this county for nearly thirty years he formed a large acquaintance and was known by all to be an industrious and careful man in all his business transactions, by which he was able to leave ample provision for those dependent on him. He had been a life long member of Friends' church, and while he was quiet and careful not to lay claim to more than he really enjoyed he left the clearest evidence of his acceptance with God, and expressed himself many times as being ready and willing to go. His end was peace, and the church feels the loss of another one of its fathers in Israel, but our loss is his gain. The funeral services were held in the Downey street church on Monday at 10 a.m. where a large assemblage attended. Rev. Pemberton preached from Heb. 4:15.
