Stricken early this morning S. W. Sutton, 87, pioneer resident of Santa Ana, was found dead on the bathroom floor of his home at 1015 North Spurgeon street at 8 o'clock this morning. He was found by his widow, Mrs. Kate Sutton. Death was due to an unsuspected heart ailment, it is reported.

Prior to his death Sutton, who has been prominently identified with the development of this city since 1885, was in excellent health. Yesterday he ate hearty meals and spent the morning at his ranch near this city. In the afternoon he spent several hours in the business district and returned to his home in excellent spirits according to members of his family.

He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Kate Sutton, one son R. L. Sutton of this city, and a daughter Mrs. J. C. Chase of Breckenridge, Mo.

Sutton was born in Westchester co., N.Y. February 6, 1844, but spent the earlier days of his life in Iowa where he moved with his parents in 1856, making the trip to Tipton by boat and wagon.
