F.H. Hicks passed away at his home Sunday morning about 3 o'clock after a lingering illness. Mr. Hicks has resided for a considerable period in our town and was generally known in this community. He was a veteran of the Civil War. His passing will call to mind the many estimable traits of his character and a wide circle of friends will remember him with kindness and will feel a vast sympathy for the bereaved relatives.

Francis Marion Hicks was born in Ogle county, Ill, May 23, 1842 and died at West Branch, Iowa, February 13, 1921, aged 78 years, 8 months and 21 days. In June of 1867, he was married to Phylena Hulse, who preceded him April 2, 1913. Three children survive him, Fred C. of Aitkin, Minn., Frank W. of Clinton, Iowa, and Fannie C. who has been his constant companion since 1913. In 1912 he moved to West Branch which has since been his permanent home. He served in the Civil war as a member of Company K, in the 142 Regiment of Illinois Infantry.

His death came after a confining illness of more than five weeks and ushered him into the joys and possibilities and services of his Heavenly home. He died strong in the Christian faith and in such faith left a rich hertigage to those who administered to him during his last illness.

The funeral services were held in the home Monday aftrnoon at half past two o'clock, when the pastor, Rev. W. G. Rowley, spoke words of comfort. Interment was in the local cemetery and the G.A.R. veterans conducted the services over the grave.
