The funeral of Captain William Dean, a former resident of Tipton, aged 71 years, was held Tuesday afternoon. Mr. Dean has been prominent in banking and other lines of business for many years. He was a veteran of the civil war, serving as captain of company A, 5th Iowa Infantry. He was in many hard fought battles and resigned his commission when only fifteen of his original company were able to answer roll call. Mr. Dean was the first commander of William Beaver Post, Grand Army of the Republic, and he was later honored by being elected commander of the Loyal Legion of Honor of Iowa.
