The memorial service for William J. (Nick) Nicolaysen, 72, of Downs, IL, was held at 8:00 p.m. Thursday Oct. 3, at the Beck Memorial Home in Bloomington, IL, with the Rev. Donald E. Clont officiating.

William Nicolaysen was born February 15, 1913, at Mechanicsville, a son of Nick H. and Hattie A. (Johnson) Nicolaysen. He married Helen A. Watson on December 26, 1937 at Lewis.

Mr. Nicolaysen was superintendent of operations for Johnson Transfer & Fuel Co., Bloomington, for 20 years. Later, he was a maintenance supervisor until he retired on July 1, 1975 for State Farm Insurance Cos.

He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of WWII and served in the South Pacific Theater. He was a member of the Congregational church.

He was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Alyce White of Normal and Helen J. Thompson of Manitou Springs, CO; a brother, Donald O. of North Bend, OR; two sisters, Gladys E. Rife of Mechanicsville and Jean E. Schnoebelen of Santa Maria, CA; and five grandchildren.

Mr. Nicolaysen died September 30 at his residence.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
