William B. Norton, 88, of Lowden, passed away Monday, Dec. 5, 2016, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf.
Bill was born in Wilton Junction, Iowa, on Dec. 8, 1927, to Charles W. and Ruby Whitmer Norton. He graduated from Wilton High School in 1945 and then from Drake Law School in 1953. Bill proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy. He married Judith A. Daehn on Oct. 14, 1972, in Grinnell.
Bill founded Norton Law Firm in Lowden in 1953. He was still practicing law until the day he died, as an attorney with Norton, Baumann & Surls Law Firm in Lowden. Bill was on the initial board of directors of the Lowden Development Corp. and Little Home Day Care Center. He was a former member of the board of directors at First Trust and Savings Bank, Wheatland, and the Board of Governors of the Iowa State Bar Association.
Bill was currently a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, the Lowden American Legion, Lowden AMVETS, Lowden Retirement Housing Corporation, Lowden Lions Club and the Cedar County and the Iowa State Bar Associations.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 9, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lowden. Per Bill's request, please dress in casual attire supporting your favorite team, especially North Cedar Knights, Iowa Hawkeyes, Iowa State Cyclones or the World Champion Chicago Cubs. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, at the church. An additional hour of visitation will be held before the service at the church. Serving as pallbearers will be Bill's grandsons and honorary pallbearers will be his granddaughters. Interment will be in the Lowden Cemetery.
Bill is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife, Judith Norton of Lowden; his children, William B. (Georgann) Norton of Kansas City, Mo., Marla Norton (Alain) Taylon of Omaha, Neb., Bradley (Elizabeth) Norton of Lowden, Lori (David) Meier of Louisville, Ky., and Mark (Kelly) Norton of Lisbon; his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Christopher and Mary Hill and their children, Adam, Pearl and Silas; Rachelle Cutshall and her children, Savannah and Robert; William Bradlee "Will" and Rebecca Norton and their children, Leah and Liam; Nathan Dittman; Jared and Monse Dittman and their daughter, Mia; Madelynn and Jordan Sherrill and their son, Lucas; Meredith Norton; Jacob and Mariah Meier; Jillian Meier; C.W. "Caleb" Norton; and Bryanna Norton; his stepgrandsons, Andrew and Eric Taylon; and his sisters, Lucille Yedlik of Vinton and Miriam Baumann of Grinnell.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Denise Hill; his sisters, Florence Bates and Alice Mealy; and his brothers, C. Wesley and Harold Norton.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bill's favorite charities, Little Home Learning Center or Trinity Lutheran Church, both in Lowden.
