MRS. AUGUST STILLE
Mrs. August Stille, a long-time and respected resident of the Pleasant Valley community, died Friday, April 3rd, at her home at the age of 62 years, 6 months and 10 days.
Caroline Stille, nee Gabelmann, was born in Kuerzell, Baden, Germany, on Sept. 24, 1873, and spent the first nine and one-half years of her childhood there, in the fruitful valley of the Rhine, known further inland as the Black Forest.
In March, 1883, she came with her parents and the rest of the family to this country, where she was later confirmed in the Lutheran Church at Charles City, in which neighborhood the family lived at that time. Later on they moved to Fremont township, Butler county, where she spent the rest of her life.
On Nov. 6, 1890, she was married to August Stille. It was the fourth marriage in the Pleasant Valley congregation. This union was blessed with nine children, seven boys and two girls. Three of whom preceded their mother into eternity: Walter, at the age of 16; Robert, at {t}he age of 23, who died in the service of his country in France, and Magdalene, shortly after her birth.
The surviving children are: Edward, Oscar, August, Martin, and Theodore Stille, and Gertrude (Mrs. Adolph Bucherer). Besides these the deceased mother leaves to mourn her departure, her invalid husband, August Fred Stille, three daughters-in-law, one son-in-law, 18 grandchildren, five sisters and two brothers: Mrs. Win. Stille, Misses Minnie and Bertha Gabelmann, Mrs. Wm. Biekert, Mrs. Carl Rath and Wm. Gabelmann, all of the immediate vicinity, and Jacob Gabelmann of near Colfax, Iowa; besides numerous more distant relatives and friends, here and in Germany.
