In Response To: Re: family histories (Beverly Miller)

I found the following information in the 1880 Davis County census.

Andrew Beard 21 b. Iowa f. born IL, m. born IL
Almeda Beard 18 b. Iowa f. born PA, m. born PA

I found Andrew living with his parents in the 1870 Davis County census.

William Beard 45 b. IL
Nancy J. Beard 38 b. IL
James Beard 17 b. IA
Andrew Beard 14 b. IA
William Beard 9 b. IA
Isaac Beard 7 b. IA
Eleanor Beard 3 b. IA

I also found the parents again in the 1880 Davis County census, where they listed all four of their parents as born in KY.

In the 1925 Iowa special census Almeda was still living, in Moulton, Appanoose county, with her grandson Donald Kimball, age 9, but she was a widow. That census listed the names of parents, and her's are listed as Daniel John and Mary Shiner, both listed as born in PA and they married in PA. Donald Kimball listed his parents as Archie Kimball , b. KS, and Mary Beard, b. IA and they were married in IA.

I found an online edition of the History of Davis County and an entry for William Beard here:

BEARD, WM., farmer, section eight, postoffice West Grove; was born October 16, 1825, in Mainard county. 111., where he grew to manhood. His
parents were Andrew and Sallie Beard. In 1849, he came to Iowa, settling in this township, and moved on his present farm in 1856, where he has since
resided. He owns 130 acres of splendid land, under a high state of cultivation. He was married in October, 1844, to Miss Nancy Jane Bell, a daughter of Henry and Elizabeth Bell. They have been blessed with ten children: Sarah E., James H., Andrew, William, Isaac, Ellie, and four deceased. In politics Mr. B. is an independent democrat.

I then found a history of Mainard County Illinois here:

That's a scan of the text of the book so there are lots of mis-scanned words. But you can do multiple "Find"'s to get to a long biography of an Augustus F. Beard way toward the end of the book. I can't connect him to your Beard family but with the same name in the same county and the multiple occurrences of both William and Andrew in his line, there likely is one.

Good luck with this information
