SAMUEL RYALS DEAD

Death removed a long time resident of Southern Appanoose county last Thursday when Samuel Ryals, age 64 died in Centerville at the home of his daughter, Mrs. E. M. Scurlock. Mr. Ryals had been in failing health for a number of months, suffering an attack of heart trouble last winter from which he never completely recovered. Saturday night of last week his condition again became serious, pneumonia developing Sunday, and his condition gradually: weakening until the end.
Samuel Ryals, son of John and Sarah Ryals, was born near Omaha, Mo., October 11, 1865, where he grew to manhood. In September, 1888, he
united in marriage with Ella Packard and to this union three children were born, Mrs. E. M. Scurlock, of Centerville, Glen Ryals, of Leeds, Mo., and Nova Bruce, who died in infancy. With the two children, two sisters, one of Des Moines and one of Nebraska, survive him. For many years he was employedas a mine foreman and merchant at Coal City, remaining active so long as health would permit. He was an active member of the Masonic and I. O. O. F. lodges, assisting in the various activities of these orders. His was a pleasant, friendly personality, and thus gifted, he won many friends, was obliging and ready to assist those in distress when opportunity presented itself. He will be misled and mourned not only by, the immediate relatives, but by many whom he had befriended, and many who through the years had valued his friendship.
The wife preceded him in death 36 years ago.
Funeral services were held Friday afternoon, at 2:00 o'clock from the Hilltown church, near Coal City, conducted by the Rev. Alexander Robert
son, pastor of the Centerville First Baptist church. Interment was made in the cemetery adjoining the church.
