South Grove rural school
Section 35, Post twp.

1933

We have a perfect record of attendance this month. We are proud of this and hope to continue it.

Clifford Olson, Wesley Thoma and Alan Olson had an average above 90% on their report cards this month, and therefore have their names on the honor roll.

Our boys have been very busy on their annual training work. To date they have constructed a reading table, two chairs, a work table and sand table. They are now working on a project for the sand table. When finished it will represent a complete farm scene. We have some very efficient carpenters.

Our kittenball team includes Capt. Henry Paulsen, Clifford Olson, Leonard, Wesley and Ruth Thoma, Hazel and Hilda Paulsen. We have played three games so far and as yet have not been defeated. We are working hard to keep up this record.

Visitors this month have been Mrs. Kenneth Schultz, Mrs. Emmet Schroeder, Lulu Leet, and all members of the Cherry Valley school, Irene Foley and members of Franklin No.4 school.

1935

Just five weeks of school remain, and we are proud to say that four of our pupils have been neither absent or tardy during the entire year. The pupils are Hilda and Hazel Paulsen, Ruth and Wesley Thoma. One other pupil Roger Snitker, has missed only one day. During the past month we have had a perfect record of attendance.

Our seventh grade pupils are working diligently in preparation for the coming examinations. They will write spelling, hygiene and geography.

Wesley Thoma and Hazel Paulsen presented our school at the district declamatory contest. Both did well and Wesley was given second place. This is splendid encouragement and with this experience they are looking forward to trying again next year.

The fifth grade has completed several of their text books and are now reviewing. They have made some interesting notebooks this year which they are finding very helpful in their review.

Hilda Paulsen, Ruth Thoma, Hazel Paulsen and Wesley Thoma have learned all the choir songs and can sing them well. This is their first year of choir work and they will earn a certificate for it. In addition they will become members of the county choir. Roger Snitker will complete his 2nd grade Beacon Reader this week. During the year Roger has read five first grade readers and two second grade readers. He also read several library books.

Rita Snitker is very interested in mastering the combinations of addition. Although she is only five years old, she has progressed very well in her school work.

We are preparing some fair work in art class. Roger is making some free hand cuttings. Wesley has made some very clever toys. The girls have been working on dresser scarfs and lunch cloths. These things, with others we shall make later, will be sent to the county fair.
