Joel Frederick Carter was born Aug. 9, 1925 to Arthur Fred and Martha Rose Pauline Collies Carter. He died Feb. 20, 1945 and is buried in National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, Honolulu, Hawaii.

Pvt. Carter served in World War II with the U.S. Marine Corps 23rd Marines, 4th Marine Division and was KIA in Iwo Jima.

Donald Edward Cole was born July 29, 1921 to George Cleveland and Abbie Viola Cole. He died Nov. 21, 2004 and is buried in East Lawn Cemetery, Algona, IA.

Donald served in World War II with the U.S. Army 36th Coast Artillery.

Roger Fay Combs was born Feb. 24, 1919 to William H. and Romola Ham Combs. He died Aug. 8, 2008 and is buried in Clarks Chapel Cemetery, Athens, OH.

Sgt. Combs served in World War II with the U.S. Army Air Corps 129th Base Unit, 8th Air Force and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and Air Medal with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters.

His twin brother, Robert Henry Combs, also served in World War II with the U.S. Army Air Corps and was killed in a plane crash in the Aleutians.

Edward Henry Cunningham was born Jan. 5, 1923 to Lloyd B. andGladys Laverne Burr Cunningham. He died June 11, 2016 and is buried in Iowa Veterans Cemetery, Adel, IA.

Sgt. Cunningham served with the U.S. Army in World War II.
