John Carl Maehl was born Feb. 2, 1924 to John Henry and Helene Fredrika Louise Koehn Maehl. He died Dec. 27, 2012 and is buried in Elkader Cemetery, Elkader, IA. 

Sgt. Maehl served in World War II with the U.S. Army 85th Infantry Division in Italy, taking part in the Rome-Arno Campaign, Northern Apennines Campaign and the Po Valley Campaign.

Orville Charles “Bud” Maker was born Feb. 1, 1919 to Arthur Frederick and Emma Martha Block Maker. He died Jan. 27, 1992 and is buried in Postville Cemetery, Clayton County, IA. Pvt. Maker served in World War II with the U.S. Army in the North African and European Campaigns.

Carlton Russell Martin was born Dec. 3, 1916 to Archie and Elsie Wilhelmina Margaretha Roeder Martin. He died Mar. 29, 1996 and is buried in Elkader Cemetery, Elkader, IA. Chief Warrant Officer Martin served with the U.S. Navy in World War II.

Virgil Clyde Martin was born Sept. 5, 1921 to Archie and Elsie Wilhelmina Margaretha Roeder Martin. He died Apr. 27, 2016 and is buried in Rose Hill Cemetery, Grundy Center, IA. Virgil served in World War II with the U.S. Army 155th Infantry Regiment as the company baker where he baked breads, cakes and pastries in field ovens and set up portable gasoline kitchens working in combat areas in New Guinea and the Southern Philippines.

Delbert John Martins was born Apr. 13, 1922 to Leska Charles and Alta W. Brandtman Martins. He died Nov. 30, 2000 and is buried in Marion Lutheran Cemetery, Gunder, IA.

Pvt. Martins served in World War II with the U.S. Army 2nd Calvary Brigade and was stationed in Japan.

Norbert Cyrus McCauley was born Feb. 7, 1922 to Cyrus H. and Mary Tschohl McCauley. He died Aug. 25, 1979 and is buried in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Dubuque, IA.

Sgt. McCauley served in World War II with the U.S. Army Air Corps 95th Bomb Group, 8th Air Force in England as a radio operator gunner on a B-17 Flying Fortress. He was presented the Air Medal.

Lawrence R. “Larry” McGuire was born Aug. 14, 1914 to Peter E. and Roanna Mae Riley McGuire. He died Apr. 24, 1983 and is buried in Saint Marys Catholic Church Cemetery, McGregor, IA.

Sgt. McGuire served in World War II with the U.S. Army Air Corps 28th Bomb Squadron at Clark Field, Manila, Philippine Islands when they were taken over by the Japanese and spent 40 months as a Japanese POW.

Thomas Raymond Morris, Jr. was born Feb. 6, 1919 to Thomas R. (Sr.) and Martha McTaggart Morris. He died Jan. 9, 2007 and is buried in Fort Logan National Cemetery, Denver, CO.

Chief Warrant Officer Morris served in World War II with the U.S. Army Air Corps as a power turret and automatic computing sight specialist on a Flying Fortress group which participated in over 260 combat missions in France, North Africa, Italy, Sicily, Bulgaria, Yugoslavia, Romania and Greece and was the squadron non-commissioned section head. He was awarded a Good Conduct ribbon, three Battle Stars for European Theater campaigns and an American campaign ribbon for Pacific Coast Patrol. He also served in Korea.
