1932 IOWA ACADEMIC TEST DAY
Tuesday, May 10, 1932, was Academic Test day among the high schools of Iowa. These tests are given once a year to determine the efficiency and effectiveness of the teaching corps as well as the results accomplished with the pupils. Around 375 high schools in Iowa held these tests Tuesday. The state is divided into several districts and the students ranking first and second in the districts will go to Iowa City immediately after school is out and take the final examinations for the state championships in some twelve subjects. The ranking of the high schools of Iowa is determined by these tests also. Every pupil in the high school is required to take them. Their grades are averaged and the school grade thus determined. Last year, Eagle Grove high school ranked tenth in the entire state, regardless of size. In the final contests last year at Iowa City, Eagle Grove students, Erling Kloster proved to be the best algebra pupil in Iowa by winning first, and bringing home the gold medal awarded the winner in the first year algebra tests. Art Barnes ranked sixth in the state in American history, and Dorothy Benedict tenth in English correctness. The year previous, Art Barnes was second in world history, winning a silver medal. The following is the list of the ten high in each subject in the tests held Tuesday in Eagle Grove: The figure after the name indicates the number of questions answered correctly. The number of questions varied in the different tests. In some there were 180 questlons to answer. This file was abstracted and contributed by: Sarah Thorson Little October 2018 - Copyright.
