Samuel S Bailey

Samuel S Bailey, a pioneer resident of Webster county, died Saturday afternoon, (February 14, 1940) at the home of his son David Bailey, 527 Eleventh avenue south, following a lingering illness.

Mr. Bailey who was 82 years of age was the youngest of eleven brothers & sisters, all of whom preceeded him in death. He had made his home in Webster county for over 60 years.

Born in Texas, he lived with his parents in the state of Texas when a small child. His father died when he was three years of age and his mother when he was eight.

When a young boy he moved to Ray county, Missouri, where he met and married Miss Polly Ann Rhuday , Jan 14th, 1883. They made their home in Missouri until 1887 when they moved to Lehigh. The trip being made in a covered wagon. Later they moved onto a farm near Lehigh, until a few years ago when Mr. Bailey retired from active farming.

Mrs. Bailey died Oct. 8, 1937. Mr. Bailey is survived by eight children, one having proceded him in death. The Children are: Mrs. Ester Young and Cleve Bailey of Lehigh. George Bailey of Lamberton, Min. Mrs. Frank Fry of Fort Dodge. Mrs Claude Harrah of Humboldt and Thomas Bailey of Dayton. Forty - five grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services will take place Tuesday afternoon at 1 o'clock at the Laufersweiler Furneral home and at 2 o'clock at the Methodist Church of Lehigh. Burial will be in the Oak Grove cemetary. The body will be at the funeral home until the time of service.
