Looking for reference to the death of Joseph Lee on May 10, 1871. He was the father of Francis Marion Lee who lived in New Market at the time. The residence of Joseph is still not certain, since I've not yet found him in 1870. In 1860 he was in Davis County, Iowa. His widow was Malinda M. Lee and the place of his death was Montana.

The family story is that Joseph Lee was scalped by Indiana when he was on a Pony Express run. Since the Pony Express only lasted for about a year and a half during the Civil War, I'm surmising that he was some other stage coach driver, possibly stationed in Iowa.
