Tama County, Iowa is a rectangle, 24 miles east-west, and 30 miles, north-south. It is divided into 20 squares, each 6 miles by 6 miles. Each square is a Township, except one, which is further divided into Tama Township and Toledo Township, as they contain the largest cities in the county, Tama and Toledo. Thus there are 21 Townships, and each is divided into square sections, one square mile each. Tama County currently has 12 cities or towns, and many that existed in the past are no longer incorporated. For a good overview of the Townships of Tama County, see this 1916 map.

Some very nice, high resolution, zoomable and downloadable maps have recently been made available by the Iowa Maps Digital Collection. They are contained in five atlases, published from 1875 to 1916. Some of the atlases also contain information on businesses, and other topics. The contents of each atlas are summarized below.

I can't give you a link to each map, because they're in frames. The links below will take you to one of the pages in each atlas. From there, you can navigate to other pages using the bar that you will find on the right.
