IAGenWeb County Coordinators Conference 2007

From June 29-30, 2007, Iowa GenWeb county coordinators from several states in the midwest gathered at Ames, Iowa for a day of learning and discussion and had a chance to put faces with the names of the county coordinators they had never met. Information Technology Services at Iowa State University was extremely gracious to provide us with state of the art computing facilities, a wonderful conference room and wireless access for the conference.

Several coordinators took advantage of the location to pursue genealogical research in the area. Friday evening several of us had fun in gorgeous weather at a picnic at Moore Park. This was followed the next day with three very informative workshops all county webmasters need to create useful web sites. Professor Dorothy Schwieder from Iowa State gave us her impressions of growing up on the plains of South Dakota, providing us with some historical context for the research we all pursue.

Finally, we rounded things out with a round table discussion, where reports were given on various special projects being conducted and techniques and tools that people can use for transcription, web site building and organization of their data.
