BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
of O'Brien County , Iowa,
April 6th 1874

Auditors Office April 6, 1874

Board met pursuant to law, present: H Day, Chairman; C.F. Albright; J.F. Burroughs; J.M. Royer; W. Walker; and H.E. Hoagland and A.J. Edwards, Auditor and clerk of said Board, and the following proceedings were had to-wit:

Called to order by the Chairman minutes of the previous meeting read and approved.

On motion the official bond of D.W. Welman was approved to replace bond for the year of 1873, lost or misplaced.

On motion the report of Court house building com. was accepted and com. discharged.

W. Walker moved J.S Wagner be appointed Co, Surveyor to fill vacancy, yeas and nays, being called for the yeas: W. Walker and J.F. Burroughs; nays C.F. Albright, H.E. Hoagland, and J.M. Royer. Motion lost.
C.F. Albright moved that J.T. Stearns be appointed Co. Surveyor to fill vacancy. Motion prevailed.

The following bills were audited and allowed and warrants ordered drawn on the proper funds for the same,from Jan 1st 1874, to April 1st 1874, $709,85 allowed for $709,85
Bill of J.C. Doling for the three per cent for collecting twenty three thousand six hundred and sixty one and seventy eight one hundredths dollars tax being the amount of taxes collected from Jan 1st 1874 to April 1st 1874, $709,85 allowed for $709,85
Bill of J.A. Smith for 44 days service as County Superintendent from Feb 2d, 1874 to April 4th 1874 at $4 per day $176,00 allowed for $176,00
Bill of Willits & Inman for publishing Road Notice; Proceeding of the Board, Notice to contractors and Treasurers Report $45,50 allowed for $35,50
Bill of C.F. Albright for 15 days service as building com. on Court House at $1,50 per day $22,50 allowed for $22,50

Bill of Wm Renwick for taxes paid on lands erroneously sold him by O'Brien County Nov 1st 1869 and Dec. 1st 1869. List of lands now on file in this office 397,24 allowed 397,24
Bill of Mills & Co. for blanks, books and stationary for Co. officers 273,35 allowed for 273,35
The petition of J.R. Pumphrey to have the taxes paid by him to the Treasurer on the north half of Sec. 20 97 Range 42 by mistake refunded to him in kind was accepted and the Treasurer ordered to refund in kind
The petition of J.F. Hollibaugh asking to have his assessment for year 1873 cut down 600,00 on account of erroneous assessment, the petition was accepted and ordered to have the assessment cut down as prayed for
On motion the official bond of J.T. Stearns was approved as County Surveyor to fill vacancy
The petition of Mrs. Mary Donovan by her Agent A.J. Donovan was presented asking to have the taxes paid by her on one thousand dollars erroneously assessed to her refunded in kind was accepted and ordered the Treasurer to refund in kind
On motion the official bond of W.H. Rudell as clerk of Carroll Tp.was approved
W. Walker moved that as the Bond of W.H. Rudell was made out and presented to the Auditor and lost that the present bond approved and the Auditor be ordered to give the present incumbent notice to turn over all books and papers to W.H. Rudell
A petition having been received from the citizens of Sutter Tp. desiring the changing the name of Sutter Tp. to the name of Baker and it appearing to the Board that a majority of the actual resident voters of said Tp.are in favor of such change. Now therefore it is hereby ordered that the Auditor is hereby instructed to cause three notices to be posted up in accordance to law, and unless those interested in the change of such name shall appear at the next regular session of said Board and show cause why said name shall not be changed there will be an order made granting such change
The following resolution was adopted to-wit:
Resolved-that the personal property tax of the actual residents of O'Brien Co. who have been residents for the past year be declared unavailable and the the Auditor be ordered to strike the same from list

W. Walker moved that the Chair appoint a committee of one to procure stove pipes, table and benches for the Court House and that the Auditor be authorized to issue warrants to pay for the same. Motion prevailed.
Chair appointed Ed. A. Nissen a com. of one as above
