Boy's Tennis Seasons - Coed Tennis Seasons - School Directory - Schools by State Appearances - Team Champions - Singles & Doubles Champions History of Iowa High School Boy's Tennis The IHSAA began sponsoring boy's tennis in 1929. State competition involved both a singles and a doubles tournament. For the first few meets, team scores were also kept, with schools being awarded a single point for each win one of their players recorded in either tournament. However, team scoring was phased out over time, and no team champion was named for several years. In 1983, a new team tournament was added in which one school would square off with one other school by playing six singles games and three doubles games, then proceed through the bracket playing another team in the same way. Since 1983, the state has crowned a team champion, a singles champion, and doubles champions. The number of schools playing tennis has is the second lowest of any IHSAA sport (only swimming has fewer), thus there are only two classes of competition, as has been the case since 1977. Despite the relatively low number of schools, there are some very small schools that have tennis teams, and that have had success in the state tournament. Coed competition Beginning in 1970, the IHSAA began co-sponsorship, along with the IGHSAU, of a doubles tournament in which one boy and one girl from a school take on one boy and one girl from another until a winner is crowned. Winners of the coed tournaments can be found on both the boy's and girl's team pages on this site and at the link above. 2020--Season cancelled due to CoVid-19 2A: no team competition 1A: no team competition 2A: no team competition 1A: no team competition 2A: no team competition 1A: no team competition 2A: no team competition 1A: no team competition 2A: no team competition 1A: no team competition 2A: no team competition 1A: no team competition Champ: no team competition Champ: no team competition Champ: no team competition Champ: no team competition Champ: no team competition Champ: no team competition Champ: no team competition Champ: no team competition Champ: no team competition Champ: no team competition Champ: no team competition Champ: no team competition Champ: no team competition Champ: no team competition Champ: no team competition Champ: no team competition Champ: no team competition Champ: no team competition Champ: no team competition Champ: no team competition Champ: no team competition Champ: no team competition Champ: no team competition Champ: no team competition Champ: no team competition Champ: no team competition Champ: no team competition Champ: no team competition Champ: no team competition Champ: no team competition Champ: no team competition Champ: no team competition Champ: no team competition Champ: no team competition Spring: no team competition Fall: no team competition Champ: no team competition Champ: no team competition Champ: no team competition Spring: no team competition Fall: no team competition Champ: no team competition 1936 Champ: no team competition |
