Coordinator's note: After doing a lot of wondering about Spring township cemetery(ies), I finally realized there are TWO Spring Township cemeteries. However, I'm still not sure if they are both officially "Township" cemeteries, even though they are both in Spring township.

Don Blake provided the following explanation of why there were two cemeteries in the township:

"The need for this no doubt was the fact that the river bisects the township and prior to the building of bridges crossing the river presented a big problem. In times of flood it was nearly impossible."

Spring Twp. Pioneer Cemetery

Located in Section 30 of Spring Township
Land was donated by W. M. Morse in December 1870
Restored by the Cherokee County Historical Society in 1966.

Located in Section 32 of Spring Township
First mention of this cemetery in books is April 25, 1887 when specifications for a fence were being approved.

A Young Man’s Death
William Kirtchen, son of Henry and Catherine Kirtchen, died at their home in Spring township on Friday, Jan. 13, 1899, aged 21 years, of appendicitis. The deceased was born in Germany on July 2, 1878. The family came to Cherokee county in April 1888. The funeral occurred on Saturday, the remains being laid to rest in the Spring township cemetery. The deceased was a young man well thought of by all who knew him. He was a brother of Mrs. Nick Baldwin of this city.
