Mrs. Melvin Ness, 49, former Sioux City resident, died at her home in Des Moines early Thursday following a lingering illness.

Mrs. Ness was born April 20, 1897, at Albia, Ia., and came to Sioux City 24 years ago. She lived here until 1927, when she moved to Duluth. From there she went to Des Moines.

She is survived by her widower and three brothers, Sylvester Plantz of Des Moines, John Plantz of East Moline, Ill., and Raleigh Plantz of San Francisco.

Mrs. Ness was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, the White Shrine of Duluth and the Lutheran church.

The body arrived here Thursday evening and was taken to the Nelson-Berger funeral home.
