Leota Smith 1859 - 1916

Mrs. Leota Smith was born in Illinois December 3, 1859, and died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. R. W. Griffith in Plankinton, South Dakota, August 26th, 1916. She was married to Mr. Frank L. Smith at Leeds, Iowa, August 17th, 1880, and with the exception of the last few months her married life was spent in Iowa and Nebraska. She was the mother of seven children, M. D. Smith, Leeds, Iowa, Mrs. Ersula Baker, Dallas, S. D., Geneva Leonard, Bassett, Nebr., F. H. Smith, Ponca, Nebr., O. W. Smith, Smithland, Iowa, Mrs. Cora Griffith, Plankinton, S. D., C. L. Smith, Smithland, Iowa.

Besides these sons and daughters, she leaves her aged mother, two brothers, one sister, five grandchildren and other relatives and friends to mourn her loss. As a wife and mother, Mrs. Smith was all that these words signify in the highest and noblest sense. She was a beautiful patient and lovable woman.

She has been a member of the Methodist church since her girlhood days.

Her remains were laid to rest in the beautiful cemetery at Smithland, Iowa.

Brief funeral services were conducted at the residence here Sunday evening, August 27th, by Rev. O. M. Hyde.
