Henderson, Nevada - Irene LuVerne (Berg) Lovstuen, age 81, passed away after a battle with cancer on April 25, 2026, in Henderson, Nevada.

Irene was born on Jan. 9, 1945, in Madison, Wisconsin.

Irene grew up just outside Decorah, Iowa, where she lived on a farm and attended a one-room country school through the eighth grade before graduating from Decorah High School as salutatorian and Homecoming Queen of the Class of 1963.

She married Ron Lovstuen on Oct. 21, 1967. Together they built their life in Decorah, where Irene became well known through her long and respected banking career. She began working as a teller at Security Bank and later continued at Decorah Bank, dedicating nearly 50 years to the banking industry and ultimately serving as a Vice President. Irene believed in hard work, loyalty, and treating people fairly, qualities that earned her the respect of coworkers and customers alike.

Irene was deeply involved with First Lutheran Church, where she volunteered in many capacities over the years. She also generously supported Vesterheim Norwegian-American Museum.

She loved University of Iowa sports, especially women's basketball, and somehow managed to be both a Vikings fan and a Packers fan at the same time. She enjoyed walking, crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, and spending time with friends at Oneota Golf and Country Club, where she was a regular at Women's Night.

Irene especially loved trips to Las Vegas and gambling with her longtime friend Judy Hertges.

Irene was known for her quick wit, integrity, and honesty. She was never afraid to tell you the truth directly, whether you wanted to hear it or not. She also never wanted to inconvenience anyone. Even while suffering a stroke, she insisted on walking herself to the ambulance.

More than anything, Irene loved her family. She is survived by her son, Randy (Tirzah) Lovstuen of Henderson, Nevada; her three grandsons, Anders Lovstuen, Lars Lovstuen, and Kinnick Lovstuen; and her longtime companion and fellow member of the Decorah High School Class of 1963, Ron Dehning.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ron Lovstuen; her parents, Bennie and Lillie Berg; and her in-laws, Norton and Luela Lovstuen.

Funeral services will be held at First Lutheran Church in Decorah at 5 p.m. on June 20, 2026. Pastor Mike Wilker will officiate.

She will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved her.
