Harl, Bertha Catherine (Bonner), daughter of Samuel and Mary (Condra) Bonner, was born June 7, 1910, in Seymour, Iowa. She passed away October 20, 1991, at the Seymour Care Center at the age of 81 years, 4 months and 13 days. She attended school in Seymour and during her early years she worked in her father's drug store. On September 4, 1928, she was united in marriage to Herbert Peter Harl and to this union 4 children were born: Richard Allen, Neil Eugene, Marjorie Irene and Merna Marie. The Harl family engaged in farming southeast of Seymour in Appanoose County for nearly 50 years. Bertha was devoted to her family, her church and her community and gave willingly of her time and energy. She was an organizer and served as the first co-leader of the Franklin Township Girls 4-H Club in the 1940's. The family occupied a central position in her life and the thoughts of family were never far from her mind. After Herbert's death in 1977, Bertha moved into Seymour, where she lived on Lee Street until she entered the Seymour Care Center in January 1991. She was an active member of the Seymour First Baptist Church, where she attended regularly until recent months. Preceding her in death besides her husband were her parents; oldest son, Richard in 1982; twin sister, Beulah Wishmeyer in 1989; and son-in-law, Thomas Sutter. Her son, Neil and wife survive her, Darlene Harl of Ames; her 2 daughters; Marjorie Sutter of Ames and Marie Donald and husband, Neil Eugene of Traer; 12 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.
