DeVore, Edra Fern (Mead), was born January 8, 1897, in Corydon, Iowa, the youngest child of Alphonso (A. G.) and Sarah Isabelle (Rogers) Mead. She passed away February 11, 1995, at the Seymour Care Center at the age of 98 years, 1 month and 3 days. Edra married Leonard DeVore of Green City, Missouri, on March 17, 1918. The Lord blessed them with 8 children: Roger, Ruth, Nile, Leslie, Lawrence, Keith, Donna and Kenneth. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard, in 1964; 2 sons, Niles and Leslie; one grandson, Steven Caldwell, one son-in-law, Dwight Caldwell; her parents; 4 brothers, Floyd, Manton, Homer and Floyd Mead; 3 sisters, Orvilla Darnell, Louella Showalter and Flo Byrn. Survivors include daughters, Ruth Keller and husband, Ernie of Seymour and Donna Caldwell of Davenport; sons, Roger and wife, Anna Lou of Pomeroy; Lawrence and wife, Betty of Newton; Keith and wife, Beulah, Kenneth and wife, Dorothy, and daughter-in-law, Mildred, all of Seymour. 30 grandchildren, 69 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren also survive her. As a young girl Edra joined the Methodist Church in Corydon where she grew up. In later years she transferred her membership to the Seymour Christian Church. She was a pianist at the Corydon Methodist Church as a young girl, and also in high school for the boy and girls; glee club. In later years she was pianist for the Seymour Legion Auxiliary. She started playing the piano at the Seymour Christian Church in 1967 and continued until 1990 when her health and eyesight started failing. She lived most of her life on a farm near Seymour until moving to the Senior Citizens' Retirement Home and later to the Seymour Care Center. She enjoyed painting, club, fishing, gardening, games, traveling, Seymour Legion Auxiliary, Friendly Neighbor Club, Alpha Class in Sunday schol and the Christian Church Ladies Aid. Edra was extremely proud of all her family and she was loved by them all and will be missed very much. Funeral services were held February 15, 1995, at the Seymour Cristian Church with Rev. Dwayne Lawson. Milton Albertson was the vocalist accompanied by Bernace Kerwin. Pallbearers were Gale DeVore, David Keller, James DeVore, Guy Richard DeVore, Don Devore, Martin DeVore and David Ceurvorst. Interment was in the Corydon Cemetery in Corydon. Randolph Funeral Home in Seymour was in charge of the arrangmements. A memorial was established to the Seymour Cristian Church.
