Cleeton, Victor Lee, was born December 17, 1912, in Downing, Missouri, the son of Rev. William and Ruby (Moorman) Cleeton. Vic passed away August 30, 1989, at the Seymour First Baptist Church while attending Prayer Services, at the age of 76 years, 8 months and 13 days. He was united in marriage to Margaret Darrah, May 30, 1936, in Unionville, Missouri. To this union 2 children were born. His parents and a grandson, Gary Young, preceded Vic in death. Left to mourn his passing are his wife Margaret, of Seymour; a daughter, Karen Young and husband, Bernard, of Seymour; one son Mike and his wife Peggy of Monticello, Iowa; 2 grandsons, Jim Young and his wife Connie of Seymour; and Dustin Cleeton of Monticello; 3 granddaughters, Vicky Peck of Mustang, Oklahoma; Staci and Michelle Cleeton of Monticello; and 5 great grandchildren Chand, Angie and Torry Peck of Mustang and Rachael and Tracy Young of Seymour. Also left to mourn are 3 sisters, Bernita Merritt and husband Jack of West Des Moines, Iowa; Bernice Ganong of Overland Park, Kansas; and Freda Clayton and husband, Ken of Spirit Lake, Iowa; and one brother, Russ and wife, Mary Jane of Wichita, Kansas. He also leaves several brothers and sisters-in-law: Don and Anna Beth Banning and Wayne and Susie Legg of Seymour; Emerson and Nadine Darrah of California and Nic Manocheo of Oelwein, Iowa. Vic was a lifelong member of the Seymour First Baptist Church and was custodian for the Seymour Community Schools for 43 years. Honors included 2 yearbook dedications, 2 FFA Honorary Farmer awards and the Old Settlers "This Is Your Life" in 1983. Family and friends will miss Vic. Services were held Saturday, Sept 2, 1989, at the First Baptist Church, Seymour Iowa with Pastor Don Ploesser officiating. The vocalist was Ed Kerwin accompanied by Bernace Kerwin, pianist Marlen Flower was organist. Pallbearers were Richard Davis, Kent Walther, Max Rush, Ken Banks, Leroy Sager and Curtis Sebolt. Honorary bearers were Cliff Sebolt, Wendell Pick, Clyde Hancox, Everett Mabee and Allen Bear. Interment was in Southland Cemetery, Semour, Iowa. There was a memorial for a Victor Cleeton Scholarship Fund. Randolph Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
