Carpenter, Charles Edward, 77, of Plano died Thursday, March 18, 1999, at the Golden Age Care Center. He was born September 26, 1921, in Confidence, the son of Edward and Icy (Wright) Carpenter. He married Donna Frame, January 8, 1943, in Princeton, Missouri. She survives. Also surviving are 3 sons, Charles Carpenter and his wife Linda of Corydon, Donald Carpenter and his wife Cindy of Fayette and Dennis Carpenter and his wife, Kathy, of Middle Amana; a sister, Maxine Rhodes of Lakeland, Florida; 7 grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his parents; 4 brothers, Clio, Nolan, Elmer and Paul Carpenter and a sister, Mary Larson. He received his education in Wayne County rural schools. He served in the Army during World War II. He farmed in Wayne County since 1950 with the last 24 years spent n a farm in Appanoose County near Plano. He was also an auctioneer. He served as Wayne County Fair Board president in the late 1960s. He was a member of the Farm Bureau, VFW in Ottumwa and the Plano Christian Church. Funeral services were held at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville with the Rev. Larry Hudson officiating. Burial was in the Confidence Cemetery. Memorial was given to the Plano Christian Church.
