Elmer Dale Schafer

Elmer Dale Schafer, son of Charlie and Iva Dickinson Schafer, was born June 6, 1900 at Richland and died at his home in Milton August 22, 1969 at 3:30 p.m.

After spending several years of his childhood in southern Missouri, he came to Iowa while a boy.

On January 28, 1920 he was married to Florence R. Howard. To this union six children, four sons and two daughters, were born.

He spent about 18 years in Chicago, Ill. working for railroad and truck freight firms. The remainder of his life was been spent in this area as a farmer. Preceding him in death were his parents; one brother; one sister; one son; and three grandchildren.

Surviving are his widow, Florence; three sons, Charles of Cantril, Howard of Fairfield, and Dean of Chicago; two daughters, Estalene Runquist of Aurora, Ill. and Jean Simmons of Hinckley, Ill.; 28 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted at the United Methodist Church in Milton by the Rev. Herbert E. Phillips. Interment was in the McDowell Cemetery, northeast of Fairfield. The Wellborn Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
