George Lafayette Norris

George Lafayette Norris, 67 years, one month and six days died Tuesday, July 26, 1977, at the University Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa, after a lengthy illness.

George was born June 20, 1910, in Roswell, New Mexico, to Martha McClane and Clyde G. Norris.

October 1, 1938, he married Mona Grace Kreamer in St. Louis, Missouri.

He was member of the Cantril United Methodist Church, the Masonic Lodge, the Cantril Lions Club and the Knights of Templar. He was President of the State Savings Bank of Cantril and he operated the Lumber Yard in Cantril for many years.

George is survived by his wife, Mona, one daughter, Lana Norris Williams of Winchester, Massachusetts, two granddaughters, Lisa Holmes Patterson and Michelle M. Norris and one sister, Grace Wiedner of Winnyconny, Wisconsin.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, George C. Norris, who was a Lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps. He died in action in Viet Nam in April of 1968.

Services were held in the United Methodist Church of Cantril, Iowa, Saturday, July 30, 1977, with Reverend Ed Kail officiating. Mrs. Beryl Beeler provided the music.

Pallbearers were Craig Van Auken, Joe Creath, Paul Wells, Lloyd Smith, Roy Tedrow, Jerry Smith and Lloyd F. Smith.

Burial was in the Maple Grove Cemetery, at Cantril, Iowa.

The Wellborn Funeral Home Milton, Iowa, was in the charge of the arrangements.
