SADIE MALINDA GARRET NELSON

Sadie Malinda Garret, daughter of N.C. and Harriett Burns Garrett, was born Feb. 25, 1901 at Cantril in Van Buren County. After a lingering illness of many years, she passed away at the Ottumwa Hospital on Oct. 2, 1982 at the age of 81 years, seven months and five days.

She spent her entire life in Van Buren County. When a child she lived in the Keosauqua area and attended the Keosauqua School.

In 1923 she was married to Samuel Roy Nelson of Mt. Sterling. Most of their married life was spent on farms in Van Buren County. They moved to Milton from Stockport in 1941, and lived on a farm east of Milton until the house burned in 1960 when they moved to town. To this union were born six sons and two daughters.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel, who patiently cared for her during her long illness and died 21 Dec. 1981; two sons - Joe Dale, stillborn and Harold Franklin who was killed in a highway accident enroute to work on Nov., 9, 1953 at the age of 17 years.

Surviving are two daughters: Catherine L. Bickel of Albia and Madeline M. Eden of Bonaparte; four sons, Samuel G. of Bonaparte, Archie R. of Albia, LeRoy E. of Blakesburg and Peter N.C. of Milton; 23 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Monday, Oct. 4, at 2 p.m. at the Priester Funeral Chapel in Milton with the Rev. Harold Harryman officiating. Interment was in Sunnyside Cemetery in Milton.
