Darrell R. Rains Killed In Accident
Darrell Robert Rains, 19, of Birmingham was killed at 12:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 11, in a one-car accident one and one fourth miles southeast of Birmingham on the Birmingham-Stockport blacktop. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Rains of rural Birmingham. Passengers in the car were Jack Diephius, 17, son of Mrs. Madge Diephius and Fred Haynes, 16, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Haynes of Bonaparte, were treated at Van Buren Count Memorial Hospital at Keosauqua and released.
Van Buren County Sheriff Orville Lee said Rains was traveling southeast of the blacktop road when the car went off the road on a curve, hit some fill rock in the ditch and rolled over twice. Rains was pinned under the car. The body was taken to the Burch Funeral Home in Birmingham. This accident brought the death toll to six teen-agers and one adult in Van Buren County this year.
