Obituary in Creston News Advertiser 1/26/1980

Eldon Dale Haynes, 62, of 218 Myrtle St., died 9:30 AM Saturday at Greater Community Hospital here after a two-week illness.

Services were 3 p.m. today at Coen Funeral Home with the Rev. Thomas Carpe officiating. Burial was in Graceland Cemetery.

He was born Jan. 27, 1917, in Grand River to Roy and Florence (Baker) Haynes. They moved to Creston, while he was an infant. He was in company B, 707th Tank Battalion March 1942 to Feb. 1946. Helen Louise Cline became his wife Sept. 15, 1947, in Christian Church here. Mr. Haynes retired as a mail carrier Dec. 6, 1973. He was a member of the First Christian Church and Veterans of Foreign War Post 1797 and Elks 605.

Survivors include his wife, Helen, son Larry Haynes, and grandson, Michael Bruce Haynes, both of Manchester. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Glenn, and sister, Margaret Cregeen.
